Remote LSAT Checklist

If you鈥檙e taking the LSAT remotely, here is a list of what to expect on test day and the steps you need to complete to ensure your test session runs smoothly. 

Please note that Google Chrome is the only supported browser.

  • Make sure you are in a well-lit, fully enclosed room, with no transparent/glass walls, doors, or large windows that cannot be covered.
  • Make sure you have a table or desk, and access to a strong and stable internet connection.
  • Read and review the .
  • Remember that you are not permitted to connect your computer to a VPN, use private or incognito mode browser settings, or use a hotspot at any time during the test.
  • Before downloading the ProProctor software, please restart your computer and install any system updates. If you installed the ProProctor software for a previous test, make to sure to uninstall it and download again for the new test.
  • Make sure your volume and audio levels are set to at least 80% without the use of a headset (as headsets are strictly prohibited) and are set to a normal range before opening the ProProctor application. You will be unable to do this after opening ProProctor.
  • If you will be testing on a desktop computer, please make sure to use an external webcam so that your testing environment can be properly monitored.
  • If you will be testing on a laptop, please plug your device directly into a power source, unattached to a docking station.
  • Shut down any background applications and disable any firewalls:
     Windows:

  • Turn off notifications on your MAC or Windows device.

    On a Mac computer, choose the Apple menu and then System Settings. Navigate to Notifications in the sidebar (You may need to scroll down). Below Application Notifications on the right, click an app or website, then turn off 鈥淎llow notifications.鈥 You won't receive notifications for it until you turn on 鈥淎llow notifications鈥 again.

    On a Windows computer, Select Start > Settings > System > Notifications. To turn on Do Not Disturb, select On. When Do Not Disturb is on, the notification center icon will change and hide any incoming notifications.

  • Open the at least 30 minutes before your scheduled testing time.
  • Enter your Prometric confirmation number and last name.
  • Complete the enhanced system check.
  • You will need a valid ID and your LawHub username/password. (These are the same credentials you used to register for the LSAT.) For more information about acceptable IDs, visit Identification Accepted for LSAT Admission.
  • Click on Launch your Exam, which will redirect you to LawHub to start the test.
  • Use your credentials to log into LawHub.
  • Read and agree to the Certifying Statement.
  • Click Begin, and the time will start.
  • Take your break during the intermission.
  • Finish your test, rip up your scratch paper, and submit.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Restart and reconnect within 30 minutes of the issue to ensure your confirmation number is valid. If you connect after that time, you will not be able to proceed with your test. 

  • If you experience connection issues, consider using an ethernet cable instead of Wi-Fi. If you disconnect too many times, you will not be able to proceed with your test.

  • If your technician or proctor directs you to close out of the test, use the EXIT button.
  • Reboot your computer if you experience any technical issues. If you have followed all troubleshooting steps and exhausted all options to complete your test at your scheduled time, please submit a complaint within 2 calendar days of your scheduled test in your online account.
  • To optimize your computer setup and avoid any technical issues during your test, test takers should turn off any background applications before starting their test. Visit Prometric's website for instructions to turn off background applications on a or computer or see instructions below.

  1. Open Task Manager
    1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager directly.
    2. Alternatively, right-click the taskbar and select Task Manager.
  2. Go to the 'Processes' Tab
    1. Once Task Manager is open, go to the Processes tab. This will display a list of running applications and background processes.
  3. End Unnecessary Background Applications 
    1. Under the Processes tab, look for applications that are running in the background.
    2. Select the application or process you want to end.
    3. Click on End Task at the bottom right. Be cautious not to end critical system processes.
  4. Disable Startup Programs (Optional)
    1. Click on the Startup tab within Task Manager.
    2. Right-click on any program listed that you don鈥檛 need running at startup and select Disable.
    3. This will prevent these programs from running automatically when your computer starts.
  5. Adjust Background Apps Settings (Optional)
    1. Open Settings by pressing Windows + I.
    2. Navigate to Privacy > Background apps.
    3. Toggle off any apps you don鈥檛 need running in the background.

Instructions for Turning Off Background Applications on macOS:

  1. Open Activity Monitor
    1. Click on the Finder icon in the Dock.
    2. Go to Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor.
  2. View Running Processes
    1. In Activity Monitor, you鈥檒l see a list of all active processes.
    2. You can sort by CPU, Memory, or Energy to identify resource-heavy applications.
  3. Quit Unnecessary Processes
    1. To stop a process, click on the process you want to quit.
    2. Click the X button in the top-left corner of the Activity Monitor window.
    3. Select Quit to stop the process. If prompted, confirm that you want to quit the process.
  4. Disable Startup Programs
    1. Open System Preferences by clicking the Apple logo in the top-left corner and selecting System Preferences.
    2. Go to Users & Groups.
    3. Select your user account, then click on the Login Items tab.
    4. Select the application(s) you don鈥檛 want to start automatically and click the minus (-) button.
  5. Adjust Background App Settings (Optional)
    1. Open System Preferences and go to Battery (for laptops) or Energy Saver (for desktops).
    2. Uncheck any options that allow apps to run in the background, such as Enable Power Nap.

  1. Click the Start button, type 鈥淲indows Security,鈥 and select 鈥淲indows Security.鈥 
  2. Click on 鈥淔irewall & network protection.鈥 
  3. Choose the network you're currently connected to (domain, private, or public). 
  4. Under 鈥淢icrosoft Defender Firewall,鈥 switch the setting to 鈥淥ff.鈥 
  5. To turn it back on, follow the same steps and switch the setting to 鈥淥n.鈥 

Instructions for Disabling Firewalls on macOS:

  1. Click the Apple menu, then select 鈥淪ystem Settings.鈥 
  2. Go to 鈥淣etwork.鈥 
  3. Choose the active network connection. 
  4. Click 鈥淥ptions鈥 for the selected network. 
  5. Toggle the firewall setting to 鈥淥ff." 
  6. To turn it back on, follow the same steps and toggle the firewall setting to 鈥淥n.鈥 

Intermission: What You Need to Know

  • Do not use any electronic devices.
  • Do not use your computer for any other purpose than the test session.
  • Do not discuss the test with anyone.
  • Do not work on your scratch paper.
  • Return and complete the check in process before the 10 minutes are over.
    • Complete a room scan.
    • Confirm you did not discuss the test with anyone.
    • Confirm you did not use any electronics.
